Confirmation system is being abused
It's possible to confirm one's own answers via sock puppets.
Both jackal22 and myself have done this in the previous month in a race to get the most points.
This month semtex started doing too.
Both jackal22 and semtex are very good solvers, so even though they are confirming their own answers, they include proof in their posts, and they are almost certainly correct answers.
Now Julia Taylor started confirming her own answers as well, but she's not as careful, and is confirming merely guesses as well, like http://namethatpornstar.com/thread.php?id=403984 for example.
I think that, ultimately, self-confirmation needs to be prevented or everybody will start doing in a race for the top spot on the monthly leaderboard. It's already impossible to get the top spot without doing it, soon everybody on the leaderboard will be somebody who confirms their own answers. Then the site will lose a lot of its usefulness because it will have too many wrong answers.
On the other hand, it's extremely frustrating for solvers when questioners don't mark answers correct. I've confirmed my own answers via sock puppets too, my hands aren't clean. So it would be bad if the confirmation system disappeared completely as well.
I have several ideas for how it can be restricted:
Confirms should be logged for new threads, but the confirmed answer only gets marked correct once the thread turns a month old.
Confirms should only count from users who have earned a certain number of lifetime points. Maybe 500? Maybe 100?
The amount of total confirms per day for a user should be restricted. Maybe 25 confirms per day?
I know that you're probably already overworked, and don't need any extra tasks. But self-confirming is sort of subverting how the site is supposed to work, while on the other hand, I feel very tempted to start confirming all of my own answers again, because I really want that top spot on the leaderboard, and it's impossible to get it without doing it.

FYI - it's "cry babies" not crybabys.
I hope you don't delete your comments like Semtex/jackal/anonymous does.

"Anonymous" - great response coming from someone who's "anonymous". You're definitely someone worthy of consideration. Here's a suggestion - get a username and post what you think. Also - comma's and periods dude. Seriously.

I agree with CCC there is absolutely NO need for points, it is all ego driven. No one confirms anything anymore anyway, let's just say bubba is number one and always will be to satisfy his need to be somebody and move on. Bubba tell yourself you're number one and believe it and all is solved, it doesn't matter if it is true or not.

The funny thing about all this is that bubba who started all this and is so hung up on being number one would not be number one if he had not self confirmed over 300,000 points in less than one week. And Zed you and bubba are total crybabys!

Jackal/Semtex - I agree, let's let bygones be bygones.
The strongest position you can take is to quit after you've been consistently and utterly exposed and embarrassed. If you do that and take the high ground as being the "peace-maker", no one will think of you losing every argument you made.
I admire you for realizing that.
You never answered my question about Jihad and whether you get boys or girls, but I can guess what the answer is. Good luck to you. I know it's hard work confirming your own answers. So hard.
I mean - if you were so confident in your arguments why would you delete your responses?

But I wanna pass them because I am a better driver and my car is faster, not because I cut across the infield

Let's try this...
Since we helpers are the only ones who give a shit, and the rank on the Leaderboard only matters to the individual, why not just "adjust the Leaderboard in your mind" to suit what you believe to be true - whether it in fact is true or not?
I can easily ignore everyone above me - except for the one RIGHT ABOVE me - I just wanna PASS SOMEBODY when I'm racing ;-)

"Points are a great way to manipulate people into competing ..."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamification#CriticismGamification is the application of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts. Gamification commonly employs game design elements which are used in so called non-game contexts[ in attempts to improve user engagement, organizational productivity, flow, learning,[ employee recruitment and evaluation, ease of use and usefulness of systems, physical exercise, traffic violations, and voter apathy, among others. A review of research on gamification shows that a majority of studies on gamification find positive effects from gamification. However, individual and contextual differences exist.
Law of Unintended Consequences? Methinks that the proponents and critics of Gamification both have good "points" (pun IN-tended)

Points show "credibility" level.
If say "Bonnie Rotten" for a pic and I have a bazzillion points the OP can rest assured that it is Bonnie.
Points are FOR the target audience to accept the answer with confidence - but then again, that is what citation/proof is for ;-) -

Bubba Ho Tep:
"...delay between 2 people confirming..."
problem with "5 minutes or so" is that is robs the OP of the "joy" of marking the CORRECT themselves. The target audience of NTPS is NOT we detectives (Imy adBlock stuff kills everthing except those occasional fuckups of adNetworkGuy invoking popOVER/UNDERs)"Requiring 5 confirms for a correct answer might backfire..."
5 was taken from a VERY active forum in which I am participant.
Howzabout some "lesser fixed amount" for the automatic award (however many it takes)? Take away the incentive and solve the problem?
A determined cheater (or criminal of any kind) can defeat any safeguard.
A cop once said to me, "Locks only keep honest people out."IMHO, only the OP should be able to award the "full tally" of CORRECT + bonus-for-Following
At bottom, we "gamers" (I actually don't give much of a shit... its just a game!) are not the target audience. So spending time (money) making us happy over this "isolated issue" is not a good business decision.

Points are a great way to manipulate people into competing and solving more. If they are eliminated, fewer people will be interested into providing their unpaid labor to this site.

Bubba is correct, I am not Semtex or Julia Taylor. Like I said to be fair as CCC put it, Duderulez80 was the first to complain about the ability to confirm ones own answers as soon as it became possible, he lost interest and rarely comes on the site. Several others left because their efforts were not being appreciated, IMHO the point system only creates problems, some of us become obsessed with being number one. I was one of those people but I no longer care, I too am slowly losing interest in this site. When you really think about it what difference does it make who is number one? It's just PORN!!! It has no redeeming value whatsoever, does not make you better in any way, there is no benefit.....NONE!

I will address Zed one last time, from this point on I will not read or respond to the foolishness. Zed I don't care who you are, where you're from, what you have done or been in your life or what you say or think of me. You may continue this BS if you like, I will no longer be a part of it.

CCC sorry I got caught up in the chaos, I am going to rise above going forward. Tell me CCC do you think there is a need for points? No points would solve a lot of problems, the thing people care the most about is getting their threads answered.

If you guys are really serious about making this fair, the only way is to put everyone back to Zero points and start over. It would not bother me but I'm pretty sure you would never go for that bubba. If you want to be fair that's the only way. As I have said I didn't just confirm my answers, I used two id's to confirm almost all the top users, including you bubba at one time. Semtex caught it back when you gained 300,000 points in that very short time, during that time Semtex gained a lot of points as well, but Semtex called several users out on it, you might run across our exchange at some point, it was maybe a year or so ago. I personally don't care if there are any points at all at this point. Actually Duderulez80 commented about this issue first before this forum existed and that's the reason he lost interest.....He was the best!
